About DefendKurdistan

We, who started Defend Kurdistan in the summer of 2016, are a group of youths.

During this time, we witnessed all the misery and war in the Middle East, especially in Kurdistan after ISIS advancing in the region.

Kurdistan has also been affected by war in all the four parts, by the opposition forces in the region. This has caused a lot of damage to the Kurdish people and especially the children. We had thoughts and ideas that we wanted to implement and in some way, contribute to the region, that is why we started the project Defend Kurdistan.

The purpose of the project “Defend Kurdistan” is to sell different products with the print “Defend Kurdistan” on t-shirts/sweaters/hoodies etc. The profits of these products will completely go to the most affected victims of the war, namely the children. We chose to help and support the children, because they are the future and it is an investment for everyone, to help create a better future.

Ever since this project started, we have worked effectively on short time, to help poor children through different projects. We will give an account of which projects we have been working on, since we started Defend Kurdistan.

The first project we implemented was in Kurdistan, to see how the situation was and what we could achieve. Soon after, we got to know that most of the things we wanted to do demanded the right contacts. We were denied access to visit some of the refugee camps. They motivated their decision by telling us that we needed to apply for authorization. However, we did not give up and moved on to the next place where we could contribute with our help.

We made the decision to first and foremost invest in school because it is an investment in the future, our thoughts on this is:

“If a child gets the opportunity to educate themselves and gets a good job, then they can later help and support their family”

That is why we chose to hand out school uniforms to children, because there are a lot of parents who cannot afford to send their children to school. We wanted to make it easier for them. In total, we handed out 500 school uniforms in 4 different refugee camps in Hawler, Suleymaniah, and Koye. The refugees who live in these places come from Rojhalat (east Kurdistan) and some of them have lived there for 23 years. They have been left out and received little help.

The second project we implemented was to renovate the roof of a hospital in a refugee camp in Koye, the roof started leaking water and needed support to sustain come winter.

We received help by people from the refugee camps who volunteered and we could lower the costs. By doing this we could save the hospital, which later will give care to children, families and the Peshmarga who sacrifice their own lives to defend democracy and freedom.

By now we have had the ability to find ambassadors and volunteers in Kurdistan who will ease a whole bunch of errands for us. We are incredibly grateful for having these people who make it easier for us to support the children in Kurdistan.

We also want to thank all the people to contribute daily by buying our products and without you all, we wouldn’t be able to make a difference. Her bijin!
